Schell Memorial Bridge
. . . transitioning from historic icon to a new beginning
A historically-faithful replacement bridge across the Connecticut River that serves both as a premier recreational link for a network of hiking and biking trails in the tri-state region and as a centerpiece for a series of linked parks for Northfield and area residents. Further, the ongoing FSB misson should be to promote citizen enjoyment of the footpaths, bikeways, and parks that connect to the new bridge. The details of the FSB role in this new era are being developed.
The above graphic is a representation of the profile of the design. The graphic below is a layout of the construction area, showing the two paths to the bridge, the two parking locations, and the small park location.
MassDOT, the builder of the bridge, plans to provide comprehensive historical commemoration of the old, historic Schell Bridge, Below is one representation of what part of this historic attention could be.
